Rally
Wednesday 23 September, 5 p.m.
Opera/Kärntner Straße, 1010 Vienna
Holocaust denier and President of the Iranian terror regime, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, announced his appearance at the UN General Assembly in New York set for 23 September, at a forum that has willingly offered a stage for anti-Semitic dictators in the past. On this occasion, we want to protest here in Vienna, one of the four UN seats, against the policy of appeasement vis-à-vis the Iranian regime and against economic support of the dictatorship of Mullahs and Revolutionary Guards. With our rally in Vienna, and simultaneous protests in New York, London and Paris, we want to send a clear message against courting the Iranian regime, which has become an open military dictatorship of religious apocalyptics.
The last years bear witness to the aggressive inward and outward behaviour of the rulers in Tehran: Strengthening the Revolutionary Guards within the Iranian political power structure; support of international islamic terrorism; increased persecution of national and religious minorities, homosexuals, trade unionists and emancipated women; extermination threats against Israel; and active pursuit of nuclear weapons.
The bloody crackdown against the Iranian freedom movement following
the presidential election fraud has not changed the Western policy of appeasement
so far. Effective, comprehensive and consistent economic sanctions, however,
would be needed now more than ever to increase the pressure on the Iranian regime
and prevent its nuclear armament, which poses an existential danger to Israel,
is a threat to the West, takes the Iranian population hostage and would lead
to a nuclear arms race in the entire Middle East.
Instead of giving Ahmadinejad and other representatives of the regime an international
stage, the international community must support the Iranian opposition, whose
members fight at the risk of their lives for freedom, democracy, the rule of
law and secularism. If Austria does not want to serve as the Iranian regime's
accomplice to its policy of oppression and in the development of the nuclear
bomb, at least it will have to:
- ban the app. 600 Austrian companies active in Iran, like OMV,
Ebner and Voest, from conducting business that keeps the Iranian regime alive;
especially in the energy and banking sectors or with (bogus) companies of the
Revolutionary Guards, which control a large part of the Iranian economy;
- advocate the inclusion of the Revolutionary Guards on the EU's list of terrorist
organisations;
- expel the Iranian ambassador and support the international isolation of the
Islamist apocalyptics in Tehran, who regard the extermination of the Jewish
state as their religious duty and brutally suppress the desire for freedom of
the Iranian protest movement.
